New City Service Proposals For San Francisco

By the City Service Cohort

New Service: Solar for all.

Our Solar for All program would provide solar panels for low and mid income families that would help lower electricity costs and lower the carbon footprint for their families. This service would help low and mid income families deal with their daily needs by lowering the costs of their utilities which can in turn lead to more money for other necessities.

Who would this benefit?

This would benefit low-income and middle income families allowing for lowered energy bills and a lower carbon footprint overall.

What benefits would the city gain?

The city would have a lower carbon footprint and more affordable electricity.

What are some of the cons of the service?

Solar panels are expensive, Inconsistent sun, and limited space may be some problems that we would come across.

New Service: Buddy Pen Pal

We are proposing a citywide/local-wide program for teenagers from the ages of 13 to 18 to meet one on one privately to build a stronger connection together and with the community. We recognize that many teenagers struggle through mental hardships and some don’t have people to go to. This program will hopefully battle that and be the solution to that problem.

Who would this benefit?

This would benefit the families, specifically the teenagers in San Francisco.
What benefits would the city gain?

This would bring the community closer together.
What are some of the cons of the service?

An issue we think this program will come across is some parents may be a little skeptical of the safety of their children. Their child is essentially meeting up with a stranger so some parents may not like it. If parents were allowed to stay and watch over their children’s interactions with their mentor/mentee, the people might not feel as open to talking about certain topics.

New Service: Donate and Reuse

A program that takes donations of clothing, appliances, and other necessities and gives them to those in need.

Who would this benefit?

This would benefit those who are unable to afford specific necessities.

What benefits would the city gain?

This also would be good for people to have new clothing and won’t have to worry much about figuring out how to get money to buy new things this would help people have an opportunity to get clothing wear and other things they need to live.

What are some of the cons of this service?

Spend money on this program for people to manage it, so this would be a nonprofit service.

New Service: Green Commute

This new service would incorporate innovative infrastructure that encourages human powered transportation, such as moving sidewalks or kinetic walkways. This concept would be able to produce energy from the movement of people walking or biking.

Who would this benefit?

Green Commute benefits individuals, society, the environment, employers, and governments by promoting sustainable transportation choices and reducing the environmental impact of daily commuting.

What benefits would the city gain?

It would improve environmental issues by reducing air pollution in the environment and conserving resources. It would also help people’s health because it would increase the amount of physical activity.

What are some of the cons of the service?

While Green Commute has many advantages, it requires a comprehensive approach that involves governments, businesses, and communities working together to improve accessibility, safety, and infrastructure for sustainable transportation options.
