This summer at OFA Cambio Labs, our Fellows Avalon Edwards and Michael Lee trained to be social entrepreneurship instructors and guided a group of SF youth through the design process to create innovative social ventures! Under their instruction, students identified social issues they were keen to address, worked to ideate potential solutions, interacted with local community members, developed real prototypes, and pitched their business ideas to a panel of judges. Cambio Labs is a nonprofit organization that provides educational technology and curricular programs to transform students into social entrepreneurs, designers for impact, and community activists. After 2 years of operations, we have been able to serve 237 students through a variety of partnerships with schools like Comp Sci High, nonprofits like Prep for Prep and OFA, and workforce development initiatives like our Solar Training Initiative in partnership with the RETI Center. Journey is a dynamic online learning platform we built that features multimedia lessons, prompts, and team-based challenges to help participants launch their ventures. As they progress, users earn “gemstones” that can be exchanged for prizes, workshops, and services provided by our corporate and global partners and volunteers. The platform also provides access to mentorship programs, job opportunities, and other resources, making it a gateway to a broader ecosystem of support for participants.
